Minolta Magicolor 3100 DN, an outstanding machine

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: quality images, fast for its price, pages laminate immediately out of the printer.

Cons: No cons to report. No problems in first year.

The Bottom Line:
If you want to print quality color on a small budget this is the printer for you.

Author's Review
I have had my Magicolor 3100DN printer for over a year now. Originally purchased at the end of the year as a tax deduction, it has become the workhorse of my small shop. The color images are photo quality, making the manuals that we print above expected quality, and making the letterheads stand out. With automatic duplexing, we save a bundle printing on both sides of brochures, and get professional quality when bound with plastic combs. For its price, the speed is quite good at about 16 ppm. We can send a job to the printer and expect it to run unattended until that job is done. Catalog pages printed on 32 pound glossy paper have a lot of snap, and feed without problems.

With Xerox and other printers that use fuser oils, you cannot laminate and expect good results (some say you can if you wait a few days before laminating). Our prints can be laminated right off the printer. THAT is a big plus for us.

Trying to set print parameters using Windows XP control panel is impossible, because the menus come up in Japanese, which I do not read. However, WordPerfect Office, Microsoft Office 97. and Corel Draw give printer preferences in English, and it all falls together.

For the price, this printer is an effective buy.
