The Bottom Line: 
Look somewhere else for range or for hunting. Best range over open water was 1 mile, others in my group used theirs up to 3 miles.

I did as another reviewer did and purchased these for hunting. First, I also agree with others that all brands mislead us about the possible range, but if these say 10 miles I at least expected them to beat 2 mile radios. BASICS- Good build quality and controls are simple with not too many options like others. Comfortable in the hand but I agree that the monitor button should be somewhere else, use gloves and you'll understand. I dislike having to manually set HI power every time I turn it on while other brands do this automatically depending on the frequency chosen.
USE-Sound quality was weak and the volume will not go low enough. Headphones are optional but they have to be Midland 2 post brand not generic like Motorolas. The beeping of every button press cannot be turned off which is annoying. The above items make these radios the worst choice for hunting!! Battery life was fine except the meter only comes on when your radio is about to die making it too late to change batts. Rear clip is almost worthless because it is fixed and won't flex.
RANGE-I didn't expect 10 miles but I thought they would do better then Conair $10 2 mile radios. The worst I have ever tried as far as range.
