For 2001, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is now available in four models: S430 and S500, and the new S55 AMG and the reintroduced S600. New for this year, standard features now include a power rear window sunshade and InfoServices customized Information System. New options for this year include Active Body Control suspension (standard on the S55 AMG and S600), voice control for the integrated Motorola Digital Timeport telephone, a tire pressure monitoring system, and an electronic trunk closer (late availability). The new S55 AMG features a 349-hp 5.5L AMG engine, dual exhaust, AMG sculpted bodywork, and the S5 Sport Package. The S600 includes unique body accents and a 362-hp V12 engine.

Pros: Smooth, quiet, comfortable and gets 25MPG at 85MPH (30MPG at 70). Mercedes prestige.
Cons: Expensive to maintain. Mercedes prestige.
Bottom Line:
A very comfortable touring car regardless of size, that also gets good gas mileage and has a history of durability when properly maintained. Its a Mercedes Benz!
