Author's Review
I purchased the Rapunzel Tower right before Thanksgiving.  Target was running a series of sales, and there was a special coupon for 50% off any one Disney doll, dress up costume or playset.  The chatter on my mommy message boards was that the Rapunzel Tower would be included.

Before this sale, the Rapunzel Tower was not on my radar at all.  But when I saw that this set, which was already on sale for $88 would be $44 with my coupon, I decided to go for it.   I even made the decision to be at the store when it opened.   I was concerned that there might be crowds, but there were only a couple of other people waiting by the doors.  They were going for electronics deals, so I was able to waltz down to the toy department and grab the one and only tower on the shelf!  The coupon scanned without a problem, and I was just thrilled to get the tower for $44.

My husband assembled the tower a couple of weeks later.  There were only a few pieces that needed to be put together, but he had trouble snapping them into place, and he was concerned that he was going to break the pieces.

When assembled, the tower is about 3 feet tall.  There are three levels, separated by staircases.  The lowest level has a hearth and some hooks to hang things.  The middle level has a little balcony and a mural of Rapunzel watching the floating lanterns in the sky.  The highest level is a bedroom with two windows, a little mirror, and a small mural.

The tower comes with quite a few furniture pieces- most notably, there is a bed and a chair/table set.  There are also a ton of accessories: a kettle to hang by the hearth, a bucket, Rapunzel's famous skillet, as well as many small bottles and trinkets.  They even include a little Pascal figurine (the chameleon).   Many of these pieces are very small and are most definitely a choking hazard, so use caution if you have small children in the house.

Lastly, there is even a special hair extension that you can attach to your Rapunzel doll.  Please note- the tower does not come with any dolls- no Rapunzel, no Flynn, and no Maximus (the horse).

The best part of the tower is the mural that you can paint with a special brush.  The special brush is a wand with a bit of sponge on the end.  If you happen to lose the wand, a q-tip will do just fine.  When the mural is painted, a secret picture is revealed.  This is, by far, my daughter's favorite thing to do with the tower.  She sits patiently and swabs away at the mural until the entire thing is painted.  I would really recommend that you show your daughter the proper mural to paint.  There are two other murals in the tower, and they probably aren't going to hold up very well if they are constantly subjected to a swabbing.

I like this set, but I have some problems with it.   First of all, the tower is allegedly designed for a "fashion sized" (Barbie) doll, but the tower is too small to accommodate the doll.  Rapunzel can only stand on the lower levels of the tower, and even then, the proportions are off.  On the highest level of the tower, Rapunzel's head grazes the ceiling, making it impossible to move her around the room.

On that note, because the furniture pieces are designed for fashion-sized dolls, they don't fit into the tower either, making it difficult to store the pieces in the tower.  As I have mentioned in previous reviews, I have three children in the house, and so I have great respect for toys with built-in storage options.  While we can store the accessories in the tower, it is difficult to store the furniture.

Also, the tower advertises five rooms to play in.  This is quite an exaggeration.  My eyebrows are slightly raised at their interpretation of a "room".  By my count, there are three rooms: the hearth room on the lower level, the balcony space on the middle level, and the bedroom on the top level.

Like I said, I do like this set, and more importantly, my daughter likes the set.  I like that there are so many accessories, and I like the mural that my daughter can paint.   In terms of fun, I would give the tower 4 stars.

However, I am giving the tower an overall score of 3 stars because I don't think it offers $88-$139 of fun.  If the price I paid was in that range, I would be disappointed in the tower.  But for $44, I am very pleased with the tower.

I recommend the Rapunzel Tower.  I really recommend that you try to wait for a price drop, but if you are buying for the holidays and your daughter really really loves Rapunzel, go ahead and buy it.  There's nothing horribly wrong with the tower, and the furniture and accessories do add to the value.  The Rapunzel is an above average $50 toy, but it is only an average $100 toy.
