The Linksys WRT54GL Wireless Router has tools and power to network every device in your home with ease. In fact, it’s actually three devices in one. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect both screaming fast Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection making the WRT54GL a simple solution for complete home and office networking. I don't honestly know what to think about this thing

Author's Rating: Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Excellent signal output when it works right

Cons: It has to be reset and reconfigured CONSTANTLY

The Bottom Line:
If you can find a better router, buy it. I wish I had, and when I can afford to, I will.

When I bought my new Acer laptop computer a few months ago, I decided I had better get a wireless router, otherwise the advantages of the laptop would be pretty well useless. Why buy something you can carry around the house if you have to be tethered to a cable?

So I bought this Linksys router. As the documentation (and the guy at Best Buy) promised, it WAS easy enough to set up.

Good thing, too.

Why? Because I am setting it up CONSTANTLY.

I don't know why, but at least three times a week, I lose my internet connection on the laptop. The modem is cool; Time Warner says I have service, and my wired computer is OK, so what's the deal?

The deal is that the router "forgets" there is internet flowing through it. So I reset everything and reconfigure my network from the ground up, and away we go again.

As far as signal strength goes, it is excellent. It is about 200 feet from the router's location to the farthest corner of my back yard. And I get 95-100% signal --according to Windows Vista -- at that distance. It makes using the computer outside very easy.

I just wish it would quit trying my patience!
