Strong Wireless Signal!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Easy to set up, good price, quality name brand

Cons: Wireless signal is on the same frequency as 2.4 GHz cordless phones

The Bottom Line:
Definitely recommended for people who want to share a high speed internet connection wirelessly, and still get high speeds.

I have been a fan of Linksys networking equipment for about a year and a half now. I have a lot of networking experience, so setting this up was no big deal for me. People with little or no networking experience may require help setting it up. However, Linksys equipment comes with clear step by step instructions. I received the Linksys wireless network access point (model WAP11) for my birthday in September. Along with that, I also received the Linksys wireless network USB adapter for my laptop (model WUSB11). My desktop PC and my laptop share a high speed cable internet connection. I already owned the Linksys four port cable/dsl router, but it was a huge pain to have to run a cable from the router to my laptop. It was a good thing that I already had the router because the WAP11 needs to plug into it. The router acts as what is called a DHCP server. What that means is that it assigns an IP address to each computer that is in the network. That IP address is needed in order to access the internet, as well as the network. Once the access point and wireless adapter were set up, I was able to travel all over my house without losing signal. My house is two stories, and I can even go upstairs (my access point is downstairs), and still receive the highest amount of signal possible with no decrease in internet speed. I definitely recommend this access point (as well as the wireless USB adapter) for anyone who has a cable or DSL connection that they want to share with more than one computer. This way, you avoid drilling holes and running hundreds of feet of cable to reach the other computer.
