Overheating problem

Author's Rating: Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Works as well as I would expect, looks nice

Cons: Overheats

Author's Review
This is not a full review, as I don't know nearly enough about cable modems to review it completely. I would just like to point out that it has a major problem with overheating. On its own, in an open space, it has always worked fine, but when I put my Linksys wireless router on top of it, it quickly overheats in a normal temperature room. The air holes on top were not compromised, but there just simply isn't adequate cooling. And yes, the units are made to be stacked on one another. When it overheats, the unit simply stops working. A couple of the LED's turn to steady on, and the unit is hot to the touch. This was easily remedied by leaving plenty of open space around the unit.

Other than this everything works fine. The speed is as good as my ISP (Comcast) will allow, and it has never had any other problems.
