The Lexus RX 400h is the first luxury sport utility vehicle equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It features a version of parent company Toyotas Hybrid Synergy Drive technology thats been modified for SUV duty. Changes include the installation of a new battery, the 3.3-liter V-6 from the RX 330 and a more powerful electric motor that can operate at 12,000 rpm thats twice the top speed of the motor used in the Toyota Prius hybrid.

The Perfect Mommy's Car

Pros: Comfortable, reliable, energy-efficient but super-fast.
Cons: No third-row seating option. Navigation is extra. Pricier.
The Bottom Line:
Highly recommended for people on the go. The fuel efficiency is remarkable in city driving. The RX 400 is the perfect luxury hybrid UTILITY vehicle around.
Coming from driving performance cars (M3, 540i) and a full-size SUV (LX 470) for the last 10 years, driving the RX400h is truly a big change. I guess a change in lifestyle comes hand in hand with a lot of changes, such as the vehicle one drives. As a mother of 2 boys now, this truck is a breeze to drive - it drives like a car! Parallel parking is so light and on the road, it doesn't feel heavy at all! The seats are comfortable, the height is perfect for getting in and out, and the automatic rear-door functionality is such a treat esp. if you have both your hands full. There are 2 secret compartments in the trunk for times you don't have to lug around your purse.
Now it's not a "driver's car" but it is wicked fast! I mean the pick-up is just amazing! I must say you can't feel the road at higher speeds - it's like driving paper. But I guess that can be a good thing with some people. It's just not to me. With a Lexus/Toyota name behind it, you can't go wrong with reliability. It's a trade-off in some ways but so are a lot things when you become a mom.
The best part is that you get an SUV without adding any more harm to the environment. Now isn't that a nice thing to teach the kids?
