Limited/ disappointing games
We bought the Leapster for my daughter after trying the v smile system for a couple of years. This game system was a wonderful bit of inspiration for Leap Frog, but I feel that the execution leaves something to be desired. The construction of the unit is very lightweight and seems less than sturdy. After the first few months of use we began having trouble with the system powering itself off mid-game and complaining about games not being seated correctly. I should add that the system has been used very gently. I also agree with someone else who wrote a review here and mentioned that the game selection could be better. Another thing I would like to mention here, in relation to this family of products in general, is that Leap Frog has been in the habit of putting these systems on the market for a few months and then releasing an improved version that takes a new class of games, rendering the previous system obsolete. Not very cost effective for parents if you intend to use it over a long period of time and keep your kids interested with new games.
