Pros: It looks interesting... sortof
Cons: Doesn't meet firewire spec, prone to failure and data corruption
I've been using Macs for a long time. I needed a firewire external drive for my iBook. I bought this... thing on the strength of previous experience with LaCie hard drives back in the day when they made enclosures that fit under the fishbowl Macs (Plus/SE/Classic).
It's been a long time, though. And, sadly, times do change. This hard drive fails to mount after being dismounted or after I put my iBook to sleep. After restarting several times, I've been able to coax it back onto my desktop. This pretty piece of garbage finally irrevocably damaged some of my files.
From what I've read on other web sites, the reason for this failure is that this particular model fails to meet the firewire spec, which was written to ensure that firewire devices could handle being dismounted or suspended when the system they're attached to went to sleep. I'm going to try and get my money back, but I think I'm over LaCie's 90 day warranty.
