With a 525-watt motor to handle bread doughs and thick cookie batters, this is KitchenAid's most powerful stand mixer, a professional-grade appliance with a heavy, rugged, all-metal construction (31.7 pounds) which prevents "counter walk" on the mixer's rubber feet. It has a 6-quart, polished stainless-steel bowl with an ergonomic handle and a two-piece pouring shield made of heavyweight plastic to provide a large chute for adding ingredients. Accompanying the mixer are a burnished flat beater, a burnished dough hook, and a big wire whip. On the front of the powerhead is a hinged cover for the hub to which KitchenAid's many mixer accessories attach. Minimize

Now this is a MIXER !!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Power to spare makes the KA Pro a great choice for large batches

Cons: The mixing bowl is difficult to remove and replace.

The Bottom Line:
The Kitchen Aid Professional is tops on a watt/dollar basis and a quality machine!

Okay so it sounds a little like a pretty big drill press or maybe a radial arm saw. But when you're working with 525 watts of mixing torque and power you shouldn't be surprised that this mixer sounds like a power tool. When I got my Professional, (I purchased a re-furbished unit), I had a choice of black, grey or white. An easy enough choice, and now a black matte "stealth" mixer resides on my counter. Before picking up the KA Pro, I checked into other large mixers like the Kenwood and the Magic Mill, and I'm sure they are extremely capable machines, they just aren't Kitchenaid.

I have to confess, the primary reason I got the Pro was because it looks like a real mixer; as a matter of fact it looks like a mixer on steroids. The 6 quart bowl is big enough for mixing double (and some times triple) batches of just about everything from breads to cookies. Have a white bread recipe that uses up to 12 cups of flour? Dump it right in and hit the power switch. This is a serious machine! Before I got my KA Pro, I had never come across a kitchen appliance that states in the manual that it's okay if your mixer becomes too hot to touch!

Before I purchased the KA Pro, I called Kitchen Aid twice with questions concerning the various KA models. Both times I talked to real people who were knowledgeable and friendly. Quite a pleasant experience in today's "push 1" for aggravation answering systems.

So far I have not had a bit of trouble with the Pro. The "mixers", a flat paddle, dough hook and whisk have a good solid feel. When started up, the motor has a soft-start feature that ramps up the speed to the desired setting. Those of you who deal with a lot of flour will appreciate not having clouds of flour at start up time.

But if I were going to build a Kitchen Aid Pro, I would have changed a few things... First make the bowl easier to install on the mixer. I realize that having a non-shifting bowl is very important with this much torque, but maybe having pin locks would have been easier in this case. Be very careful when adding ingredients. Even with using the pouring shield, the paddle can be whirring around at a brutal speed. Be prepared to drop your "mixer" blade in whatever you're mixing since there is not enough clearance to pull the "mixer" out cleanly.

Beyond that, this is a great machine. Big, beefy, loud, and very obvious. And even though my unit is re-furbished, I am not in the least bit worried. I'm sure that Kitchen Aid will be around for a long time.

Believe me, any other cook who comes to visit your kitchen will be drawn to this mixer like a moth to a porch light.

It is that cool!
