This South Korean automakers minivan returns for its second season with minimal changes. Sedona has standard V6 power, 7-passenger seating, and comes in a single body length, which is about 2 inches longer than a regular-length Dodge Caravan. LX and uplevel EX models are offered. Both use a 3.5-liter V6 teamed with a 5-speed automatic transmission. Dual sliding rear side doors are standard, but power doors and side airbags are unavailable. ABS is optional. The LXs 2nd-row seat is a bench; the EX has buckets. This year, the LX gains a standard AM/FM/CD player, central door-lock button, and remote fuel-door release. EX models add additional stereo speakers and a second remote for the keyless entry. All get new taillights. Kia is owned by Hyundai and duplicates Hyundais warranty: 5-years/60,000-mi. bumper-to-bumper, 10/100,000 powertrain, and 5-years/unlimited roadside assistance. Minimize

What! A Kia?

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: best price to feature, best crash test, best warranty

Cons: Low gas mileage, shorter than others

The Bottom Line:
Go for it! Save big bucks and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Author's Review
When I was researching to buy a new minivan to replace our Ford Windstar (I will never buy another Ford product, my children will never buy a Ford product, their children will never buy a Ford product – enough said); did the usual tours of Toyota and Honda. Lured by the low price, stopped at a Kia dealer but not really expecting to give it serious consideration. Boy was I pleasantly surprised. Feature for feature, by far the best for the money. Admittedly, not as refined as either the Sienna or Odyssey but an extended test drive revealed surprising strong results. On top of that, the Sedona has the highest crash test numbers and the longest warranty. I was still somewhat leery (what good is the warranty if the company goes out of business?). The fear of that was somewhat allayed when I found out that Kia is owned by Hyundai which has huge financial resources behind it. Also found out that the Sedona engine is licensed from Mitsubishi based on a proven design.

Anyway, once I decided on the car, searched car buying sites on the Web for the lowest price. I took it into my local Kia dealer to see if they would match it. They did and I ended up paying just over $20K for the EX model with EVERY option. Similarly equipped Sienna or Odyssey would have cost at least $8K-$10K more.

I'm now into my third month of ownership, expected at least a couple of trips to the dealer (which is the norm for any car), but so far (knock on wood) not a single thing has gone wrong with it.

Final word – the best testimony is from my wife, who almost shot me for talking her into the Sedona but now couldn’t be happier with it.
