This product rocks. Only one small downside.

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: -Incredibly fast DVD player. Amazingly clear picture. Great sound. Lots of extra features.

Cons: -Sometimes flickers with bright sudden bursts of light. -Does not read DVD-RAM, etc.

The Bottom Line:
My recommendation is to buy this product if you're looking for a standard receiver with an excellent DVD player. Went wayyyy above my expectations.

OK, I have to say that I have a DVD player by Zenith, with a VCR in one that goes very slow. I already have excellent speakers at home. So getting a receiver was a must for me. After trying out many DVD players, I found that most pictures seemed to be the same.
I found this product at a local store and thought, hmm, maybe I'll give it a try. What can a DVD and receiver in one hurt?
Let me tell you something, this is not like other products. The DVD is lightning fast, (pictures take a bit long to load though), apparently the 51SL model fixes that, and picture clarity is .. oh my god. I was running it on an RCA cable and my friends were commenting, "I've never seen such a clear picture from a DVD player". What's the dif? JVC's systems have this 10bit/54mhz graphic technology inside which makes the picture unbelievably clear (I'm assuming that's why). The FM radio is great, they give you an extra wire to use with it, but I didn't find it necessary. The sound was great, it was more than I hoped for. What scares me is that this is considered to be an entry level system.
It also has many really neat (but relatively useless) features like you can zoom into a picture while you're watching a movie up to 1024x! The only real problem I can forsee with this is the fact that it plays DVD-R's in only video format, and doesn't read DVD-RAM's, etc. I wrote a letter to JVC to find out if they were going to fix this and they said they don't have any plans to. I'm fine with it for now though, so it's alright. One other thing I noticed was flickering when sudden bursts of bright light were output to the screen at some times. Not a big deal though. I say this product was definitely worth the investment and hope to see companies competing with this in the future.
