4 Years later and still bulletproof

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Value as price vs. quality & durability is outstanding

Cons: Heat problem sometimes, but my fault.
No 7.1! :(

The Bottom Line:
If you can find one and you don't want HD, snatch it up.

In my opinion this JVC "entry level" reciever is on-par with its much more expensive Yamaha, etc HT heads.  For someone who wants a flexible machine to drive a non-HD home theatre they need look no further.  I have abused this thing for 4 years in dorm rooms, house parties, and trying to make myself go deaf. I've been driving 2 huge old Boston Accoustics 3-piece towers, plus an AV123 mid-sized center and 2 (8 ohm) crummy speakers from an old Sharp shelf system as rears, and even with the 8 ohm rears this little thing just keeps on chuggin. I was sure the rears would be the last nail in the coffin for this thing.

In all honesty I expected this thing to die long ago, but to this day it flawlessly plays DVD's and accepts all manner of digital inputs, etc with no significant probelms.  When it heats up the sound quality suffers, and when running it hard for long periods of time (loud movies, parties, etc) I would rig up a small fan, keeping everything cool and smooth. Only neccessary when running all 5 channels.

I'm sure this model is outdated and can't be bought on the market, but if it's any testiment to JVC's build-quality in their recievers I'd look their way for future purchases
