Pretty Impressed

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Quick to read MP3s from disc, plays every file you throw at it, compact size.

Cons: Preset EQ settings are less than stellar.

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this player. It handles MP3s very well and the sound is decent. Good bang for the buck.

From what I've read of other MP3 boomboxes, I cannot complain with the performance of this machine. Of the 1000's of MP3 files I have, only a few give the machine any trouble. I assume this is some error in the MP3 encoding process and not really indicative of a problem with the player. It also reads the MP3 disc very quickly. I don't think I've waited longer than 5 seconds for it to read a full disc of MP3s. It has random play, which is great, but if you've got more than one folder on the disc, you cannot specify which folder to randomize. It selects from the entire contents of the CD. The LCD is backlit for easy viewing. I have yet to use the remote.
The sound is decent for such a small unit. The hyperbass feature is adequate. It tries it's best to fill out the bottom end, and for the most part succeeds. I'm not particularly impressed with the preset EQ settings though. Something adjustable would be better. Even a 3 band EQ would do!
Anyway, for $100 CAD, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. Only time will tell how durable it is, as I use it as my jobsite radio.
