Great DV terrible PC support (USB model)

Pros: Compact ease of use Firewire works well. Stills to sd memory card
Cons: Terrible PC support (USB version) Image quality could be better
The Bottom Line:
If you have Firewire support on your PC then go for it but don't count on the USB port to do anything for you.
I received this camcorder as a birthday gift and I was really exited. The device is very compact, has pretty good quality (both build and picture) supports stills on SD card and video.
The part I was the most happy about was the posibility to transfer the video to my computer.
I tried using the USB port and I was quite surprised when I installed the drivers/software to see software that dated back to win95 but thought nothing of it.
Sadly I was never able to get the damn thing to work via USB
Although it was recognized as a device no software was able to capture any video, any time I would try it would blue screen my PC and reboot it. I tried anything I could think of with no luck.
I even contacted JVC tech support, boy what a huge waste of time that was; not only did they not have a clue about the device itself but they tried to blame it on the software that came with the camera and passed to buck to PIXELA (software company who wrote the terrible pile of dung that is imageMixer).
I then went out a bought a firewire cable and I was finally able to connect the camera to the PC. Via the Firewire port it actually works quite well although the image quality is not very good.
