So Far So Good!!

Pros: Wellbuilt,Solid,Fairly easy to use.Nicely layed out remote with large enough buttons.
Cons: Tad Pricey ($600), bit large in size, Goofy full face door needs to go.
The Bottom Line:
I recommend JVCdrmx1s to anyone wanting to enter world of DVR recording,DVD archiveing, and does'nt want to be held hostage to format (DVD/TAPE).One unite to rule them all.
So far (1 month)This has been a great unit. This is "THE" way to watch tv from now on. One Nice Unit to do it all. There is no going back after watching TV with a DVR recorder.(basically "Tivo" without paying a monthly fee) Pause, rewind,Fast forward Live TV (up to the point of Live). With live memory on, you never have to fear missing something if you leave the room. go to the kitchen and Miss the Weather, No problem hit rewind and there it is.
Want to turn those personal or non copy protected
(many, except for ones from the big Hollywood studios are not. protected tapes cause recording process to halt about a minute into recording.)
Tapes into DVD, it does that in just a few easy steps.
Or Make DVD's from shows you have recorded on the Hard drive.
Most of the Tapes I copied to DVD you could Not tell from the Tape original. But it is not going to make it better, if the tapes is grainy or fuzzy that is what you get. But at least you can zip to parts you want to see as it Auto adds Chapter skips.
Or make a tape of a DVD (Non protected) to share with someone.
You can also watch or jump around to other stations with the VCR tunner while the DVR hard drive or dvd records from anouther. Watched Seinfeld last night while the DVR auto recorded the news on the station it was left on, To go back later and catch weather.
Unit is built fairly Solid as first runs usually are (I am sure they will refine manufacturing as future runs occur to cheapen cost per unit, with plastic parts that are now metal.
Unit has fan to keep from overheating. it is either very quite or has not had to come on, as I have never heard it.
(unit is in glass faced cabinet thou. Had to cut a hole in fiberboard cabinet backing to let it get air as it was tight against back.)
Panel display is kind of small so cant really see from across room, but on screen display makes it unnessasary.
Remote is well layed out and buttons are a nice size instead of being tiny and hard to read.
The Unit is good looking but has a Goofy fold down front face that has to be down to put in DVD or tape, and see buttons. Dont know why anybody thinks this is a good idea
on electronics like this as it is a pain to deal with and cant be left down/open as it causes unit to be to deep to close cabinet door. Sure it makes it look "Cleaner" with a Flat simple face, But opening and closing gets old if you cant leave it open. and if you do leave it open its just asking it to get busted or caught on something yanking the whole unit out of place. It took one week for me to realize it had to go.(FYI it snaps off with a gentle prying tug. hinges have "C" shaped holders at end of hinge arms that snap over round lugs.
I opened door with my index finger at bottom sandwiching it between door bottom and unit while opening and tugged upwards prying it up and off pin.Repeating for each hinge arm.(gentle though, if you ever want to replace)
Anyway, Over all very happy with unit. Solid well built and works fairly easy. have only made a few coasters during DVD dubbing but most were my mistake.
Hope this is helpfull
