Intel Pentium III
Author's Review
I am an avid Intel user. They have never let me down in the past, and I have built over 100 Intel machines. This may not seam like a lot to a huge manufacture, but I work on these in my spare time. I purchased my first Intel PIII processor late last year. I picked up 3 PIII 500s. They are still screaming today. I then built my first Dual PIII machine a month ago. On the AsusTek motherboard and 2 PIII 550s, it has made an excellent web server.
Now for the meat and grind on the new breed of Intel. Features of the chip include: a non-blocking, full-speed, on-die Level 2 cache; 8-way associatively; 256-bit data bus to the Level 2 cache; and, a reduced latency interface to cache data (as compared to discrete caches). The Advanced System Buffering increases the utilization of the available bandwidth on the 100 and 133 MHz system bus by its optimized system bus buffer sizes and bus queue entries. I got that from the box.
In my own words, this chip hauls ass. I just loaded up Win2k, and cold boots are only taking 42 seconds to get to the desktop. I kinda looks forward to rebooting now just cause it goes so fast. Well I gave the Processor a little help I put it on an AsusTek P3V133 main board, with 512MBb of PC100 RAM.
The Bottom Line You can buy the 600B Coppermine for about $210 plus shipping.
