First, let me say that overall I'm pleased with the unit. I bought this unit for my daughter for use in the car. We do a lot of car traveling and the reduction in are we there yet along justified the purchase cost alone. The display is large enough so that more then one person can watch it and the internal speakers produce fair sound (we use headphones in the car). It comes with a car power outlet adapter, a rechargeable battery, and will run off of an AC power outlet. We also got a suspension theater bag so we can hang it from the back of the front seats. The unit plays a lot of different formats in addition to DVD's (like VCD's, SVCD's, mp3, wma) to name a few. I burn a lot of my own VCD's and the unit has played them all. In addition it not easy to get it to skip, my 5 year old has tried her best.
Now for the bad stuff. The unit is not of the highest quality construction. We're on our second unit, the first one died and had to be returned to Initial. Customer service was EXCELLENT!!! They replaced the whole unit free of charge even though it fell out of the warranty period. They rush shipped it back to me, I paid extra for that, in time for holiday traveling. Some minor knit picks some of the menu items are only accessible thru the remote and it doesn't fold all the way flat.
Overall at less then $US200 this represents a great value, I paid $280 for mine back in April of '03 and feel like I've gotten my moneys worth out of it.
