The Hyundai Sonata is a roomy and comfortable midsize sedan with a level of quality and refinement that may surprise you the first time you get in and take a good look. It costs less than the name brands, but measures up well against them. Front and rear accommodations are roomy and comfortable for four or five. The interior is nicely finished and has a general feeling of quality. Driving the Sonata is convenient and hassle-free with well-designed controls located exactly where expected. The styling is distinctive, sleek and rounded with rich-looking details. Sonata cruises comfortably down the highway, even at elevated speeds. Its steering is sharp and responsive. The V6-powered Sonata GLS and LX deliver satisfying performance.

Safe car that keeps its value

Pros: Safe, efficient, sleek, powerful, and keeps its value
Cons: Yucky smell and smoke when air bags deploy.
The Bottom Line:
If you need to purchase a used car, this would be the car to get. It's reliable, keeps its value and best of all... SAFE!
I purchased my 2004 Sonata brand new. I loved this car. I put a ton of miles on it the first 2 years but it continued to run well. I had the car until March of this year. My 11 year old son and I were heading 3 hours East of where we currently live. It was a Friday evening and the weather was fine when we left. However an hour into the drive the snow started coming down. The further we drove the thicker the snow and the more slippery the roads became.
I was about to get off of the thru-way, turning around and head home. About a mile before the exit, I hit an icy patch. I was in the "slow" lane and I was going maybe 35 miles per hour. None the less, we slid clear across the highway, rammed the front of the car into the guardrail, spun around, rammed the back end of the car into the guard rail, were thrown back into the "slow" lane, and finally ended up on the shoulder of the road. Amazingly enough, we did not hit any one or get hit in the process. The guardrail, however, was no longer our friend!
My son was terrified. He had been sound asleep and awoke to the slam of our car into the guardrail and the deploying of our airbags, which included a smoky like dust and a yucky smell.
The moral of my story is that we were not hurt. Our airbags deployed as they should, our seat belts locked in place as they should and the breaks did not lock up as they shouldn't. A few days later, when our insurance company came to appraise the car, they decided to total it. Bummer, I really loved that car. But amazingly they appraised the car at more than I owed on it. FANTASTIC! How often do people total their cars and wind up still having to pay the loan company a lump sum because they got less from the insurance company then they owed?!?!?!
Not me! I was thrilled. This car not only kept us safe, but also held its value! What a fantastic car! Next car, the Hyundai Sante Fe! :)
