The first sport utility vehicle from South Koreas leading automaker was a four-door, five-passenger wagon. Loosely based on the compact Sonata sedans platform, the Santa Fe was priced to compete with compact car-based SUVs such as the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and new Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute. Hyundais version was wider and heavier, with the biggest cargo capacity in its class.

The Bottom Line:
I recommend it to anyone looking for a small but comfortable SUV.
I've had this SUV for almost a year (bought used) and am still loving it. We were looking for a comfortable and versatile vehicle for our family of four whether we're traveling around town for the kids' football games or taking a road trip out of state - this SUV fit the bill. I experienced only one minor issue with the electrical system which was promptly repaired by the dealer (under warrantee). My version is 4WD only and I do wish I could switch on & off as I don't have much of a need for it. The back area hold a lot of stuff for travel or shopping, but I wish the back seat would move forward or backward - it does fold down easily but not to a completely flat surface. My luggage rack came in handy when we went camping and I needed a place for my kayak. I also think the heat & cooling system is great - I live in Arizona and it means a lot that the AC can handle the summer heat. I do wish the front windows were tinted (only the back are) as the sun coming in creates a heat problem, even when driving with the AC.
