The first sport utility vehicle from South Koreas leading automaker was a four-door, five-passenger wagon. Loosely based on the compact Sonata sedans platform, the Santa Fe was priced to compete with compact car-based SUVs such as the Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, and new Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute. Hyundais version was wider and heavier, with the biggest cargo capacity in its class.

The Bottom Line:
Definitely would recommend purchase if you are looking for a mid-sized SUV with good value, excellent handling, and something different.
I did loads of research on SUV's when looking to purchase a used car. Initially would have never thought I would ever purchase a Hyundai. I often envisioned Hyundai's as little wind up cars and the butt of many auto jokes. However, Hyundai has come along way.
It has one of the best manufacturer warranties in the business, has lots of options for the price, and is fun to drive. It handles more like a car than a truck. For an SUV with similar features you could expect to spend $4000-$5000 more.
I've had it for about 2 months and have no complaints. I am extraordinarily pleased with my choice. I was looking at the Liberty, Escape, Tribute, Pathfinder. For the money and options, this is by far the best value. It also rides the best and has the most distinctive styling. The Tribute/Escape did have superior acceleration, but to be honest I haven't been thoroughly impressed with Ford products over the years, though they are improving.
