Pros: Customize the temperature of your house one room at a time while saving electricity
Cons: None
The Bottom Line:
If you're always cold, or your winter utility bills are excessive, consider getting a few of these and putting them in rooms with high traffic.
We always keep the thermostat turned down in the winter to save on electricity bills, so it's usually about 10-20 degrees cooler in the house than I would prefer. So we hunted around for some space heaters, and tried a handful before stumbling onto this one. We like this so much, though, that we bought a pair of them, and have been using it for at least 2 years now with no problems whatsoever. Now, we can keep the house around 65 degrees, but keep the heaters on when we're in certain rooms in which we spend the bulk of our time, which is certainly cheaper and keeps us comfortably warm.
Features
This is a great space heater for individual rooms. It has an oscillator than covers a wide area, and a remote that you can use with all the features found on the base unit. Like most heaters, it allows you to set two different power ranges - 900 and 1500 watts - though I always keep it on high and just set a temperature to maintain like with your house thermostat, which it reaches quickly. This unit also has overheat protection, so you don't run the risk of burning your place down like you might with an old oil-filled radiator. The unit heats up quickly and is fairly quiet, and quite cool to the touch on the frame, making it easy to move around. It can be set to run continuously, on a timer, or to a set temperature - the mode which I use most frequently. The unit is very well made, with easy to understand controls. It even has a little swivel clip on the side for storing the remote when not in use, so you don't lose it. Honeywell knows what they're doing when it comes to heating and cooling devices, and they didn't make a cheap product that's going to die before the end of the season. Even if there is some problem, it's backed by a 5 year limited warranty, though I don't see why it would be necessary. It is also relatively small for the amount of heat it puts out, and stylish enough to not be an eyesore sitting on the floor. The cord is approximately 6' long, so you have enough slack to place it wherever you want.
Safety
This unit has a five-level safety protection system that contains essential elements to look for in a heater. It has an auto safety shut-off for any overheat situation, as well as a back-up fuse for the overheat circuitry. It also has a back-up thermal circuit breaker, and the motor has a thermal cut-off fuse. All this on top of the cool touch, flame resistant plastic housing makes this heater extremely safe. Plus, Honeywell is one of the industry leaders in thermal devices, so I wouldn't expect that you'll have occasion to use these safety devices in the first place. It's nice to know they're there, though.
Overall
This is a really nice heater with a lot of power, lots of convenient features, great safety, and the potential to save you money on your winter heating bill. I have had no problem with this heater in the past two years, and for less than 50 bucks each, you certainly can't go wrong!
