The Bottom Line:
I found this product worthwhile because it cleans the air well and the filters can be vacuumed clean.
This was one of the higher-rated air filters in Consumer Reports magazine. Of the high rated filters, this one seemed to be the most reasonably priced higher quality filters. I would say it is a worthwhile purchase. There are two cats in our apartment and their stuff (hair, dander, or whatever) would seriously bother my nose and throat. The filter greatly improved the air quality. We still have to vacuum regularly as well to keep things clean of hair, etc. There are 3 fan speed levels. We usually leave it on low. If we had it in another room and move it into the living room, we can turn it on high speed for a few minutes to clear the air quickly. Then we switch it to low. The low speed is not noisy at all. The high speed is pretty noisy, but it is a constant fan-like noise and so is not a terribly annoying kind of noise; it's more like loud background noise. Regarding the filters, there is an external filter and an internal HEPA filter. The outer filter catches all the visible stuff and it can be vacuumed clean! So I don't know if it will really need to be replaced before a long time. The inner HEPA filter can also be vacuumed clean. If you're considering getting the filter because you are suffering from unclean air, I'd recommend it.
