1994 Accord

The ultimate car for reliability....period

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Decent performance, roominess, comfort, good fuel economy and RELIABILITY!!!

Cons: Tendency to rust around windshield and rear quarter panels...

The Bottom Line:
I would recommend this ride to anyone who wants a economic, comfortable, low maintenance and RELIABLE ride...Regarding these aspects, NO car on the market can simply match it.

I have a 1994 Honda Accord LX coupe with the non-vtec 2.2 liter 4. It has a 5 speed manual...So far, besides normal maintenance a very minor problems(clutch cylinder, main relay, and starter terminals) it had never let me down. I bought the car in 2001 with 90000 miles on it. Now it has 170000 miles on it and boy, it runs fine...No oil consumption what so ever. The valves had been adjusted once a few years ago. Always starting even at temperatures well below the freezing point( i live in Quebec...) without a block heater!
The ride quality is good and i personnally think that the performance is very decent with the 5 speed manual tranny. I once tested the car and i pushed it to 110 mph in 4th before hitting the electronic speed limiter...(don't tell my mom...) and i felt it had a good 10-15 mph in reserve...but who is gonna drive an Accord at 120 mph anyway??? The least i can say is that i travel back and forth once a week between Quebec and Montreal (300 miles) averaging 80 miles an hour and i can tell u that, even for a car this age with this kind of mileage, i had NO engines problem at all...The temperature gauge goes up 1 third of its course and stays there whatever speed you go, regardless of the weather...
The only negative point i have to make is that this car has a tendency to rust after a decade...Usually you will find the rust on the rear quarter panels and around the windshield...which, in this last case, you will have to fix it promptly before water penetrates inside your car and ruins your relay-fuse box...not very funny...

If you want reliability, reliability, reliability, and reliability...well you can't pick a better choice. I personnally think that the 1994-1997 generation of Accords is simply the best...Honda are still making good cars but they won't make it as good as this generation was...Hey,they have to make money selling new ones afterall....
