You couldn't ask for a better, more reliable household computer!

Pros: value, features, customer support, reliability, included software, etc.
Cons: speakers
The Bottom Line:
An excellent, reliable computer for all your home/office needs.
My mother wanted to get a new computer (or old 1.2GB hard drive just wasn't cutting it anymore). She asked me to find her one that would work well for her office network (she does a lot of work from home) as well as be suitable for homework assignments for my sister and various web-based activities for me. I thought this might be a tall order since computers that encompass all of those qualities are more expensive because of their broad range of functions. I set out to my local Future Shop, however, and ended up with this computer.
I have owned an HP laptop before and from using it I know that HP's customer support is above-average and excellent. They are quite patient and helpful and do almost anything to please the customer. I knew if something should happen with the computer, my mother would be able to call them up and they could walk her through the steps to acheiving a solution.
The 514n has 256MB of RAM which is more than suitable for our needs. It has a 60GB hard drive which is agan, more than suitable. It comes fully equipped with Windows XP, home edition, as well as Corel WordPerfect. It also has a CD-RW/DVD combination drive.
No one in our home is seriously into video-games so we had no need for extra RAM or a special video or sound card. However, for someone whose needs are based mostly in office, internet or education areas, this PC is perfect. It runs smoothly and quickly and has no bugs that we have discovered. If anything goes wrong (we did get that stupid blaster-worm virus) one quick call to the customer support centre is all that's needed to sort everything out in a timely manner.
This computer isn't extraordinary in any particular area. It is just a machine that does very well in the basic areas, which is all we were looking for and needed. I'd recommend this as a student computer or as a family computer. It's also quite nice that one doesn't have to spend an obscene ammount of money on it.
