Pros: Great sound, nice handle, batteries last a long time, great for band-scanning (no chuffing)
Cons: Switches seem cheap, drifting, no dedicated clock
The Bottom Line:
Great sound at a great price. There are better shortwave radios out there but not at this price. A fun package with above average performance.
People like to complain about the auto off feature on this radio that puts the radio into sleep mode when it is turned on, activating a 90 minute count down. But if you push and HOLD the power button for a second longer it turns this feature off and plays like normal. Mine does at least.
I bought mine for $79 CAD and I feel it is great value for the price. The sound is really nice and I have no problems with reception. I feel it is adequate for the casual short wave listener but it's drift problems are real. If shortwave is your thing perhaps you might be better served with the Grundig yaughtboy 400. I have both, the S350 I like better for band-scanning because the analogue radio doesn't make chuffing sounds. And I prefer the large knob instead of buttons. I listen to a lot of AM, FM too and the S350 really shines. I couldn't believe how good the AM sounded with the wide filter on. If there are no adjacent channels the wide filter is great for AM. Shortwave forget it, too crowded. Drifting isn't as obvious in AM FM as it is in shortwave so it isn't such an issue for me.
For a sub $100 radio there is not too much to complain about here. I think it is a fun radio, I love the knobs and the utilitarian look. It had a rich sound that has no competition. I love the handle and it's reception is quite impressive. It lasts a long long time of four D batteries. Can you live with the drifting? Try it out for yourself.
