Author's Review
Trading from a 6cyl 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee my wife thought I was crazy. I started the quest for a different vehicle because the Jeep was not happy about pulling an (empty) 7x14 cargo trailer, then when we filled it with some furniture to haul from DC to Florida, forget about it. We rented the V-10 Excursion to haul for that trip. We happened to make our trip the same time as bike week here on the east coast and saw nothing but SUV's with trailers on the road. That's when I decided we needed to buy something a little bigger. Tahoe/Yukon and Expedition seemed to be the SUV's of choice. 30 hours of driving and staring at the trucks, we were torn between them. She liked the looks of the Yukon and I the Expedition. Once home we visited a few dealerships and did some test driving, it did not take but a few miles for be to become a GMC fan, it drove like a dream. We started looking for a private seller selling a Tahoe or Yukon. We thought the Yukon looked a little better than the Tahoe. As luck would have it we found a perfect condition 2000 GMC Yukon SLT with 75K on it and could not be more pleased.

The Yukon is very comfortable the captains chairs adjust any which way you need them to, this is a blessing for people with back problems. Vision is great from the drivers seat the side mirrors are huge, the rear-view is good but I have barn doors so I have a big obstruction in the middle which takes a little getting used to but it seems ok so far.

Cabin noise is minimal even at highway speed. One thing I really noticed was that I could not ride in my Grand Cherokee with the windows down and sunroof open the wind noise was horrible and the wind beat you to death. With the Yukon I can ride with everything open and you can have the radio on and easily hold a conversation plus not get wind blown.

The steering in the Yukon is superb you would never know your driving a four-wheel drive, I would say it drives just as good as my parents Caddy... if not better.

My Yukon has the self-leveling suspension so when your carrying a lot of weight or a trailer the system levels out the vehicle and I must say it does what is says. When we first hitched up our trailer the rear-end of the truck sunk considerably but system quickly went to work and the truck was perfectly level within less than a minute. The only odd thing is the compressor seems to run a lot when the car is parked and running, but who knows this may be normal?

Cargo space is unreal! I can fit my complete drum-set in the rear section without having to fold down the rear seats. I carry a lot of card-board boxes for work and my usual order that would fill the Grand Cherokee is nothing compared to the space in the Yukon.

The Yukon Vortec 5.3 liter seems to be getting around 11/12mpg around town, while my Grand Cherokee got about 13/14mpg around town with a straight 6.

I am totally pleased with this vehicle and cannot praise it enough.
