Anyone who has watched television after 10pm will probably have seen commercials for the Girls Gone Wild video series. The collection boasts real girls showing off their bare bodies in public, a fetish known as exhibitionism. Amateur videographers from across the globe send their footage to the people at Girls Gone Wild, who compile them into thematic videos and DVDs. While the videos often find themselves mired in controversy, they are still extremely popular.

Mardi Gras!

This particular volume capitalizes on a dearly held tradition of Mardi Gras ("Fat Tuesday"): bear breasts for beads. Women who choose to flash their boobs are rewarded with plastic beads and the cameras are there to catch it all on film. It appears that in many cases the cameramen are actually the ones providing the beads. The video features shots taken on the crowded Bourbon St. parade route as well as on the water.

Is This LEGAL?

Yes. In public, there is no expectation of privacy when other individuals are present; therefore, it is perfectly legal to record acts or conversations under these circumstances. When alcohol and large groups of young people mix together, clothes are bound to come off and the cameras are there to catch it. This isn't exactly the classiest of practices, but many of the girls seem to enjoy putting on a show for their watchers. Whether or not they regret or even remember their 10 seconds of fame is another story.

The Girls Gone Wild collection and similar videos have found themselves at the center of a raging controversy. Although the sale of these movies is legal, there are several pending lawsuits challenging the use of footage in television commercials. The fire is only being fueled by other controversial topics, such as upskirt videos -- videos taken from underneath women's skirts without their knowledge. What I would really like to know is: How do they deem the taped women to be of legal age? Rather than turning this review into an ethics debate, I'll simply refer you to a forum where you can discuss this issue until your heart is content:

Girls, Girls, Girls

The girls captured on video are quite attractive and they all appear to be in their late teens or early twenties, precisely what you might expect to find in a volume entitled Mardi Gras College Coeds. My one complaint is that there is relatively little diversity among those captured on tape. The subjects are predominantly young white girls, with very little -- if any -- time dedicated to black, Asian or Hispanic women. One can only guess at the reasons for this, but I found it to be a little disappointing.

Although the film focuses on breasts, it also includes a number of clips that feature the female genitalia and buttocks. Much of the full nudity is contained within the bonus footage included in the video that I happened to come by. These randomly interspersed clips do help to mix things up a bit. There is also some girl-on-girl action, but nothing to write home about. If you are seeking hot lesbian sex action, look elsewhere.

I expected the video to feature a few high quality scenes filled in with mostly low grade video clips taken by camcorders. However, I was surprised to discover that most of the videos are clean and of a reasonably good quality. The film also contains audio, but it mostly consists of men asking women to remove their tops in rather vulgar terms. While I was surprised at the number of people with video cameras in the crowd, the one thing that really disturbed me is the number of Gropey Guses out there. The malling that some of these girls get is pretty disgusting. PLEASE, look but don't touch.

GGW: Mardi Gras College Coeds is approximately an hour of the same thing repeating itself over and over again. The clips, which range in length from seconds to about a minute, are strung together in no apparent order. Each scene seems to run into the next. This allows the video to flow smoothly, but also lends a rather boring quality as well. Even the audio seems to meld together. I'm honestly not sure if the original audio tracks were used, or if they simply dubbed in a repeating track of guys screaming.

Final Comments

I'd been curious about the Girls Gone Wild collection for quite some time, so I was happy to find a friend that was willing to lend one to me. When I found out that these videos were in need of reviews, I naturally decided that I had to step in and fulfill my Epinions duty once again. For the greater good, you understand.

Unless you are a huge fan of exhibitionism, this film is not worth the $20 that you might pay for it. If you are interested, look for it on ebay.com or half.com where you might find it at a reasonable price. Just beware of the pirated copies that people will sell at these online depots. Although I wasn't particularly impressed by Girls Gone Wild: Mardi Gras College Coeds, it delvers exactly what it promises: a collage of naked women. Nothing more, nothing less. Therefore, I give it an average rating and recommend it to all the voyeurs out there.
