Amazing machine

Pros: Good price performance ratio; easy to use.
Cons: User manual is lacking
The Bottom Line:
Unless you want to spend a whole lot more for a machine that does just as much as this one, buy this one!
I have had this unit for more than a year. It has provided reliable service and great coffee. The unit is a semi-automatic - meaning it grinds the beans, tamps them, brews the espresso, and eliminates the grounds to be ready for the next cup. You need to fill the bean and water reservoirs, and clean out the grounds holder around every 8-9 cups.
The richness is variable by using two dials - one for grinding, and one for amount of water. It takes a few sessions to get your preferred balance, but once set, there is no need to change it.
The steamer works well - steaming milk for cappuccino or a latte quickly. The only complaint I have is that the stem is plastic, and not metal. It is easy to remove and clean, but why they put a plastic stem on this high quality machine, I will never figure out.
The machine boasts a cup warmer on top. Well, the only warmth comes from the heating of the water. And they recommend you turn the unit off when not being used, so the warming tray really does no real good in my opinion.
The only problem I have had with this unit is that I left it on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and after 12 months, it developed a leak. Gaggia repaired this without question under the warranty. I did have to live without the unit while it was being repaired, so a famous coffee shop made some money on me during that time.
The user guide was missing information. The store where I purchased it was very helpful in getting the machine functioning properly. There is also on-line information on how to use the machine and clean it. I would recommend buying this unit from a reputable seller, and they were readily available to answer my questions.
I purchased this unit because it appeared to have a good price.performance ratio. It has proven to be the case.
