Not designed to last

Author's Rating: Rating: 2/5 stars

Pros: Surface light and ventilation were good. More than adequate at cooking most items.

Cons: Lacks durability. Top of oven was difficult to clean.

The Bottom Line:
I wouldn't recommend this model or GE model like it unless GE has made improvements to its durability.

Not Durable
Used this for more than four years. It was acceptable in convection cooking and quite adequate in microwaving. However, I had several issues with it concerning durability.
The door handle plastic broke near wear the screw were - Used glue to repair this to better than new. Also had cooking items break the turntable (it is glass and easily replaced) and aluminum foil in the microwave spark and destroy a plastic hook for the convection rack (repairman just removed the old one and replaced it). However the oven died first refusing to turn the turn table and then resetting when trying to microwave.

I was expecting it to last as long as the Kenmore micro-convection oven I used to have (~15 years) not 5 years.

Cooks Very Well
It cooks everything a microwave could cook. It was faster than the old Kenmore as it was in the near 1000W microwave range (packages with directions for 1000W ovens were cooked in the pack stated time). Sensor cooked a number of foods including popcorn in regular or mini-size bags. Defrosting wasn't exactly all that speedy but the oven also has a fast defrost that worked for up to one pound item times.
Convection was the same or faster than a gas convection oven in preheating. Otherwise, convection worked well.
Of course there is Speedbake aka micro-convection, which combines both and worked well for items that can be baked this way (roasts and such).

Controls
The oven has a touch pad with a round turn and push knob to set the time. This control was adequate for setting longer times but lacked ability to set times in less than 15 second increments until the oven was started (when the increments could be changed in 5 second increments). The control allowed setting various dishes and plates for sensor cooking. However, the sensor wasn't useful for cooking covered foods, so this got very little use as the oven is somewhat difficult to clean if food isn't covered.

Other Features
The oven also is a kitchen hood, however, the outlet from this oven was not the same place as the hood it replaced, causing some issues in installing it. The lighting from it was much better than from the hood it replaced and it can programed with times for turn on and off. Also comes with a small cookbook (about the same size as the previous Kenmore micro-convection cookbook but not as useful and a manual.
