Fords F-150 has been substantially redesigned for 2004. All new exterior styling is accompanied by model line-up, package, and powertrain changes, as well. The 4WD Regular Cabs are available in XL, STX, XLT, and FX4 trims. The standard engine has been upgraded from a 4.2L V-6 to a 4.6L V-8 (with an optional 5.4L engine available). All engines are coupled with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The new F-150 also gets larger standard wheels and tires, all-new interior appointments, and new exterior and interior color combinations. For better payload and towing performance, a heavy duty payload package is available that increases the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating to 8200 lbs. Minimize

I'm a Ford truck man...

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: Good looks, ride and room.

Cons: Fit and finish.

The Bottom Line:
The imports may be a little more refined, but the price and looks of the F-150 make up for that.

Author's Review
This is my 4th Ford truck, but first F-150. I had three Rangers previously and finally worked my way up to the F-150 Supercrew. I bought it new in DEC 2004 and have logged almost 25k miles. Mine has the 4.6 liter V-8 and gets an average of 17 mpg (actual) but I have recorded as much as 21 mpg on highway trips. I'm probably a little obsessive about calculating my mpg on every tank, but I'm the same way with maintenance so I suppose it's a good trade-off. It could use a little more pep, but that OK with me I have a motorcycle if I want to go fast.

The only problems that I've had are small. The biggest one is the trim panels and outside mirrors rattle a bit. It just irritating. The other problem was water pouring in the truck when it rains. I am fortunate to have a neighbor that works for the local Ford dealer. He immediately identified it as the gasket around the 3rd brake light mounted on the roof. The fix was a $3 tube of sealant. I did it myself to save a days hassle by going all the way to the dealer.

Other then that I've had no complaints and only compliments on how good it looks and how roomy/comfortable it is. Plus it tows my boat like it's not even back there.
