So far........So Good!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Looks, comfort, high driving position, driver visibility.

Cons: Would like better gas mileage, but it wasn't bought for good gas mileage!

Handling And Control: 4

The Bottom Line:
So far, I have no reasons not to recommend this vehicle.

I purchased my 2001 Eddie Bauer Expedition used from a used car dealer. Although I have only driven it for three months, these are my initial impressions.

I was replacing my 1993 Suburban with something to pull my travel trailer. I looked at full-sized pickups but could not stand to give up the passenger carrying capacity because of the grandkids, etc.

The Expedition caught my eye first because of the striking looks, next the seating capacity and finally, the towing capacity.

The Expedition has 70,000 miles on it. Driving position is very good with the multi-adjustable drivers seat and leather upholstery. I found no problem finding a comfortable position and then programming it into the vehicle. Seating in the second bench seat is very good with plenty of head and leg room. The third row bench seat is, as you expect, reserved for small people. The ride seems somewhat rougher than the Suburban, but that is due to the shorter wheelbase.

The second row bench folds flat for convenience and the third row tilts forward for extra storage in the back. The third row is removable, also.

I especially like the rear dual-opening hatch. Raise just the glass portion to set objects in or raise the whole door for larger items.

I have been pleasantly surprised with the gas mileage since the vehicle weighs over 5000 lbs. On a recent interstate trip traveling 70-75 mph, I averaged 17 mpg. Daily commutes to work are averaging 15-16 mpg.

So far.... So good!
