Pros: Quite inexpensive
Cons: Not my idea of 'confetti,' only for very light useage, VERY loud in operation!
The Bottom Line:
Don't buy it if you intend to shred more than one sheet at a time because it's likely break if you do
I used to spend from 20-40 minutes a week with a paper cutter 'confetti-ing' junk mail and documents I don't wish to share with the world. Had been looking around for a 'confetti-cut' shredder, but they had been more than I had wanted to spend. Found this one @ Micro Center (a national chain) for $30.
After trying the machine out I can say that I'm kind of disappointed that isn't truly a 'confetti-cut.' What comes out are strips 1/8" wide and 1 7/8" long. However, if one inserts an 8 1/2" x 11" bank statement in the 'portrait' position rather than the 'landscape' position, your data should be sufficiently rendered useless. Potential purchasers may want to take a pen and ruler to draw a grid on a piece of sensitive information with the above dimensions to see if the results are adequate.
Another negative is that it is quite loud in operation. I would place the sound somewhere between a household vacuum and a shop vacuum. It seems as if it runs on a bit after it should have been finished with the shredding.
I have only had this machine for a short time and have no idea of its longevity. I feed it one sheet at a time and only standard-weight paper at that. Infrequent glossy tagboard material, envelopes and other heavyweight mailings get my name and address torn out and ripped up by hand. I would have to do this anyway and the paper cutter is a real hassle.
Potential purchasers should keep in mind that this is not an industrial machine and treat it with kid gloves. Also the small basket will have to be emptied more frequently than a larger, more expensive unit.
