Epson Stylus RX500
I bought a new Epson RX500 for $170 at Best Buy in March 2005. Since then the printer has been a total nightmare. I bought the RX500 after I had a decent experience with my Epson 740. The printer is one of the LEAST efficient printer I've ever used. There is a total of six ink cartridges that need to be replaced on a frequent bases. It doesn't seem like I print much in color ink but somehow they run out at a rapid rate. If one ink cartridge should go out the entire printer shuts down. Even if one of the color ink cartridges is out and you're printing in black you can't. The scanner and memory card also become inoperable. Every ink cartridge must have ink in order for the printer to work. Epson want the consumer to go out right away to buy there overpriced ink cartridges. Figure a total cost of around $100 to replace all six every few months. I've noticed that when I change the ink cartridge that there is still ink remaining. Other users report that there is still 20% ink remaining when the ink cartridge says it needs to be replaced. A lawsuit has been filed against Epson about this problem. I've had it with the printer. On one occasion I needed to print a document in black ink. As I was going to print it said that yellow was out. When the screen says your getting low on ink I suggest you replace them A.S.A.P to avoid a crisis like I had. This will be my last Epson printer that I will be buying. I suggest all consumers to avoid Epson for something else. You will regret buying one. I will be trading mine in soon for a new Canon multifunction.
My last Epson printer that I will ever buy!

Pros: Cheap to buy, decent scanner, memory card reader
Cons: Bulky, poor design, expensive operating costs, ink remain despite "empty" warning
The Bottom Line:
Stay away from this and all other Epson printers!
