A group of archaeologists on a routine expedition discovers an ancient machine and its pilot in a structure that dates back thousand of years. Scientists dub the machine Elemental Gimmick Gear and replicate it as a means of transportation. Years later, at the excavation site, scavengers in search of lost treasure trigger a switch that causes destruction the world over. You, as Leon, the pilot of the original EGG, must investigate this strange occurrence and bring peace back to the land. In this 2D action RPG, you'll be traveling across the land in search of answers and resolution, which will come in the form of exploration, challenging puzzles, and turn-based combat. Along with the traditional combat skills found in a standard RPG, you'll also acquire special skills that take advantage of your EGG's capabilities. Molded in the classic style of 16-bit RPGs with the visual acuity of the Dreamcast, EGG: Elemental Gimmick Gear takes the genre to a new level.

Pros: Action RPG, 2D terrain, GRAPPLING HOOK (HUZZAH!!)
Cons: Slow, Awkward, Bad Cover
To tell you the truth, I was honestly curious about this game. In a bad way. I thought it was going to be atrociously bad. I haven't been too thrilled by the Dreamcast's lineup, aside from a few random games, and this was on my hit list. So I made my way down to a local rental store, and picked it up, to settle my curiosity. After a bit of playing, and lots of manual reading, I came to the conclusion I could get to like this game. My only complaint is that they changed a good cover for the game, into a REALLY bad one!
It's based solely on a handdrawn terrain, where you run around as the mysterious "Sleeping Man" trying to solve the mystery of the "Fogna tentacles." It gave me a bit of a Zelda feel. The 2D one, the way Action RPGs where supposed to be. There's even a grappling hook thingy, you can use in it! (Yippee!!)
When you encounter bosses, it switches into a 3D type battle, as to "take advantage of the Dreamcast's power." Mmm-hmm.. Sure. It wasn't so bad though, I found myself passified with it. All around, I really need to play this game a bit more, because I've found myself to be having a lot of fun. It's definetly not for everyone though. It's a must rent, before purchasing....maybe. :)
