All Intrepids have a conventional 4-speed automatic transmission; the R/T had used Chryslers AutoStick with separate gate for manual shifting. Four-wheel disc brakes are standard; ABS is optional and, on the ES, includes traction control. Front side airbags are optional; side curtain airbags are unavailable. Front bucket seats are standard, but an optional bench for the SE permits 6-passenger seating.

Pros: styling, roomy interior
Cons: not reliable at all
The Bottom Line:
The car is a good deal for the price if it works. Avoid it, it's not worth the trouble,
I purchased this vehicle trying to upgrade from driving my Ford Taurus which I had for quite some time. Being a married man, I believed the vehicle to be a very stylish and sleek upgrade from what I drove before.
I consulted with some friends prior to buying it. All but one said negative things about the vehicle before purchasing it. After purchasing, everyone came out with their stories and reasons why I should not have purchased it.
I was hoping for a reliable vehicle that would be trouble free at least for the first several years of its life. My experience however, has been the opposite. Within the first few days of ownership, I had to take the vehicle back because the door locks were not locking properly. Soon after, my fuel gauge did not work. It would have been great if my tank would remain full after 200 miles of driving, but I know that wasn't case. After filling the tank up with gas it would read empty.
Today, I had to drop the car off at the shop for the third time. This time, the problem is much more serious than the first two. I started to drive the car home from work yesterday and noticed the gear slip when in gear. This morning, it slipped again. I figured I'd take it to a shop by my work place, but it didn't make it. The vehicle continued to slip and would not go passed third gear. Needless to say, I made a U turn and took it to my local dealer. The problem is definitely a transmission problem.
I'm surprised that a vehicle would have so many problems after being driven only 2,500 miles.
