So, I have a couple of old-school ice cream makers that have been collecting dust in my basement for a couple of years because I got tired of the rock salt, crushed ice, fragile aluminum pans and the sort. But nothing beats home made ice cream.

So here I am at the Salvation army, of all places, looking for a neck tie (I'm cheap, what can I say) and I see this unit, looking brand new on a shelf for 4.95. I plug it in to see if it works, it does. I check the little instruction booklet to see if has the parts, it does. So I take it home.

I put the little container in the freezer overnight and the next day, me and the six year old are ready to make some ice cream. We start off with something simple, vanilla of course, mix up the ingredients and pour the mixture into the frozen cannister. Put the paddle in and the lid on, turn it on but the thing won't move. Golly! The salvation army ripped me off again! But no, the directions CLEARLY state: assemble the unit, turn it on, then pour in your mixture through the hole. Uh, I didn't read that far down dude, my bad. So since my mix had already started freezing to sides I scraped off the sides, tried again and bingo! We had vanilla ice cream in 30 minutes. a little soft servish, but it was good none the less. Further experiementation revealed that if you chill the mixture your ice cream texture will improve. This IS the best thing since sliced bread. Highly reccommended, even at full price.
