Pros: Widescreen, DVD+RW
Cons: Communication of display setting options poor
The Bottom Line:
For anyone who works on multiple documents the widescreen is the way to go.
Bought this 2 months ago in Australia and have been thoroughly impressed. Mine came with 512Mb RAM, 60 Gb HD, Pentium M 1600MHz, Radeon 9600 Pro turbo graphics adaptor and a 1680x1050 display. The widescreen in phenomenally useful, I don't think I can go back to a standard size. Perfect for running two applications side by side. DVDs look great and the DVD+RW is fantastic for backups. I'm rapidly building up a lot of digital photos that I want to backup and the 4.5Gb capacity of a DVD is perfect for keeping them all together. A complete backup of my documents onto a DVD (4.5 Gb) took less than 20 mins. The wireless card works great, I get great reception throughout my house and again I can't see myself reverting to an "old-fashioned" wired network.
The only hassle has been that the factory display settings meant that whilst the font size was set to 120 DPi, IE was set to scale images which left them looking jagged. The solution was to alter the registry setting of UseHR to 0. This is results in readable text and non-scaled images in Internet explorer. This is all outlined on Dell's support forums but I felt it could have been communicated more clearly, or even better, set at the factory. All in all though I'm very happy with the machine.
