BEST Notebook!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: power, lite compared to others, screen, good cheap gaming notebook for people on a budget

Cons: might be a little heavy for travelers, and wireless antenna isn't the best

The Bottom Line:
Buy it now while its on sale!!!!!!!!

this is the best notebook ive ever seen and the only ive ever had. i have many friends and relatives who have notebooks, but it definitely isn't like this. here are the specs of my Inspiron 8600:

SYSTEM:
pentium m 1.4 Ghz
512 PC2700 DDR RAM (upgraded it to 768)
64 MB NVidia graphics
DVD/CD burner combo (modular bay)
15.4 Ultrasharp Wide-Aspect Display (WSXGA+)
60 GB hard drive (5400 RPM)
preloaded software (i think its just junk taking up the hard drive)
price-$1496.99 (w/o memory upgrade n tax)

the internal WLAN has sorta good connection, but if you can spend a extra few bucks for a external USB adapter, you should be good. i have a netgear router and wireless adapter for it, and the adapter can also be used as a external network card too!, i bought it at costco for a bundle that was $90, and if you buy it seperate, it would be $160. so enough about the router, my dell is really really really good compared to my friend's/relative's averatec, sony, compaq/hp, gateway, and toshiba. they have p3's to p4-m's on their notebooks and it takes up alot of their battery life. they are always complaining that every time they use it it's always hot and their battery life is HORRIBLE, but not with the 8600, its battery life can be up to 4.5-5.5 hours! there is a little heat coming up on the left palm rests like what the other people who wrote reviews said, but it as hot as if you were standing 10-15 feet beside a fire on the beach at night. the gameplay and dvd viewing is FANTASTIC! the 15.4 in display is perfect for gameplay and dvd viewing on the road. i am really surprised that my notebook has a bigger and better screen than my brother's sony desktop's LCD! if you are going to buy ths baby make sure you get the WSXGA+ display. it has a bigger and better viewing angle than the xga by around 65 degrees.the pentium M and the centrino chipset is astounding! its is very fast in booting up, and very fast in loading applications. the 1.4Ghz is about the same/ or faster than my brother's P4 2.66Ghz desktop, which too has 768 MB RAM.
