Da Vinci Emily Crib - Quality at an affordable price

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Cute, functional, well made, convertible, strong

Cons: Dents and scratches easily, wide top rails

The Bottom Line:
Overall, the Pros definitely outweigh the cons. A solid quality crib that will last and grow with my son for years to come.

Author's Review
We bought this crib a few weeks before my son was born. We chose the Coffee color. I chose this particular crib over other ones because of the convertible options, the sleigh bed style, the color and the price could not be beat.
First, the convertible option. Number one being the crib. Doesn't have a drop down side feature, but the front side is lowered and my husband is 6'2 and I'm 5'6 and we never have a problem getting our son in or out. When he's old enough we'll turn it into a toddler bed with the included toddler bed rail. It is similar to the crib rail, but has an end that is open for the child to climb in and out without needing someone to pick them up. When the time comes when he's grown out of that we'll order bed rails that are optional to turn it into a full size bed.
Secondly, I love sleigh style beds and this one is not too girly.
Third, color choices. Different stores and sites have different color options. I was wavering between a baby blue, navy blue, black, a cherry or the one I did pick which was coffee. Not all places offer all the colors, I just had to search around until I found one that did.
Fourth the price. I found mine online for about $150 less than the traditional stores. Even with delivery it was a great deal. And I didn't have to figure out a way to drive it home.
Assembly: Honestly, it was a bit of work. Directions were clear and had diagrams, but I was 8 months pregnant so I think that might have had something to do with it. It took about an hour by myself, and husband came in as I was almost finished and helped a little. With 2 people it probably would have taken half the time. The main problem was getting the last side in and bolted. Took a lot of coordination.
The wood is pine, so it is easily scratched and dented. On my finish its not really noticeable, but a cherry finish or lighter finish might show more. The baby WILL chew on the top rail and leave teeth marks. We looked for teething covers, but two of the rails are rounded and had trouble finding round vs. square covers.
It is all wood, not composite, so I know that this will last my son until his teen years at the very least.
The top rails of the bed are very wide. It's hard to find mobiles and things that will hang on them. We just hung the stuff from the ceiling instead.
