I bought this about two weeks ago - I got one with two canisters and I love it.  I use it to make non-dairy ice cream and it's so easy. This machine produces a quart and a half of ice cream.
The first ice cream maker I had was the huge one where you had to use rock salt and ice - suffice it by saying that making ice cream was tedious and the metal canister rusted out.  The second one I had, had both a motor, and a handle for turning manually.  The motor attachment broke and so did the manual handle eventually.  I decided that I didn't want any more ice cream makers with a central connection to churn the ice cream.  The Cuisinart ice-20 fits the bill.  It is the whole canister that turns, not the paddle.
Assembly is fairly straightforward, just fit on the canister, then drop in the paddle - there is a circular indentation in the canister to accommodate the paddle, then put on the cover.  There is a knob on the clear plastic cover that fits into a stop at the front of the machine, and there are stops on the top of the cover to hold the paddle in place.
I find that with non-dairy ice cream recipes, once the ingredients are properly chilled, it takes 20 minutes or so to become firm, and the motor stops automatically when it does.
The manufacturer recommends that you keep the canisters frozen, so after use, I typically wash with hot water (room temperature water tends to freeze quickly), then dry quickly (otherwise the towel will stick), and return to the freezer.  There must not be any water in the canisters otherwise they might be damaged when the water forms ice.  The bowls should be stored in a plastic bag to prevent freezer burn.  I also wash the paddle in warm or hot soapy water and this tends to get rid of any ice cream in the corners of the paddle.
There is a cord storage space on the underside of the unit.
