We recently received this product as a gift and at first I was resistant because of the electric cord and base but after trying it once I can tell why we like it so much.

I make coffee one cup at a time with a paper filter, coffee grinder and boiling hot water. This kettle makes pouring a cinch. It has dripless pour spout which allows you to safely pour out the water slowly at first a little bit at a time. Be careful though, when it's full because the water can still come out fast.

This kettle really does boil the water and then shuts off. With the plastic sealed base you can bring it to the table because the bottom doesn't get hot like a conventional pot would. If you need to reboil the water you simply put the kettle back on the base, turn it on and in a less than a minute or so the water is boiling again. There's minimal calcium buildup since the heating element doesn't touch the water. It does come with instructions for decalcification using a descaler product or vinegar. So far there's just a slight amount of discoloration on the bottom which appears to be from normal use. There's a small tube inside the kettle with a full mark which makes it difficult to put your hand inside but you won't have to clean it very often.

The electric base is nice and comes with just over a 3 ft. 2 prong cord which you can wrap up around the bottom and expose only what you need. The base is about 7 1/2" in diameter and the kettle fits on nicely. The power consumed is 1500 watts: It gets the job done quickly then shuts off. The water stays hot for a long time no matter where you bring it. I can't tell you how many times my daughter boiled our old stove top kettle dry. My, what a mess....Well this kettle won't run if it's dry. It's high tech comes to boiling water.
