My Mom-in-law have more than our love for my husband and kids in common ~ we are both tea drinkers. Over our 20 plus years as family, she and I have shared many many pots of tea!


AH ANOTHER BIRTHDAY APPROACHES?

My Mother-in-law is over 85 years old and a very independent lady. She lives alone, and for the most part, does just fine, thank you very much!

She does have to admit she gets sore after working in her house or garden but she won't even hear anything about having someone else do it! No, just let her sit and have a good cup of tea and she's ready to get going again!

Know, here is where the review comes in! I am a bit worried that she is getting a bit forgetful. Not enough that we worry about her being alone or anything just the "where did I put my keys?" kind of forgetfulness.

She had another birthday coming up and she is always hard to buy for! She has everything she needs and we always end up going through a million ideas before settling on one!

When we were visiting a friend's mother I noticed this great little tea kettle she used to make me some tea. I asked her all about it and told my husband the details when I got home. We decided it would be the PERFECT gift for my Mom-in-law's birthday.


SO, HOW DOES IT WORK?

This is different from the cook on your stove kind of tea kettle as it is a plug-in unit. This gives an advantage of being able to use the kettle in areas where there isn't a stove (such as a dorm or office) or even when there is, to use less electricity. It also heats the water faster which is always nice.

To use the Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle KUA-17 you first add the water into the pot. This is the only "different" thing about the kettle. The kettle's handle goes UP and OVER the top instead of being on the side. This means you need to pour the water in more from an angel than straight in from the top. I found this is very easy to do if you just keep the water speed a bit lower so it goes in without splashing all over the handle.

Now you just place the filled Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle on top of it's plugged in power base and flip on the on/off switch.

The little indicator light turns red when water is heating and turns off when the water is done OR the kettle is lifted off the base.


WHY THIS KETTLE?

The Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle KUA-17 is not the tea kettle my friend's Mom had but after comparing the two, I knew would be a better choice.

I trust the Cuisinart brand and this one has a 3 year warranty.

I also knew my Mother-in-law would like the way it was made from high-quality stainless steel and that it was rust-resistant.

Another nice feature is the concealed "under-floor" heating element which does NOT come in contact with the water. This not only keeps the taste fresher, it makes cleaning the pot a lot easier.

The odd looking handle placement has the advantage that the kettle's weight is distributed UNDER it and therefore making it more balanced when pouring. This is a nice bonus for my tiny Mother-in-law. The spout also has a splash guard to help protects against water spills.

Being that the unit is plugged in at the power base, the actual kettle is removable and can be carried over to pour in another area.

Since you are likely to be using the Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle throughout the day it isn't something you want to shove away in a cupboard. Therefore, it is nice that this is such a really attractive looking unit!

It has a 36 inch long cord which winds under the base, keeping it both out of sight and out of the way.

Of course one of the BIGGEST reasons we went with the Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle is that is TURNS OFF WHEN THE WATER IS DONE BOILING and/or WHEN THE KETTLE IS PICKED UP. This is a great thing and we never have to worry it was left on!

As our parents get older, we can't help but worry about them. My Mother in law is making tea all through the day and knowing the the Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle turns itself off after the water boils gives me one less thing to worry about.

I doubt I would buy one for my own use since the price is high and my "on the stove" tea pot works just fine for me. But, this is a wonderful, dependable kettle and would make a great addition to anyone tea drinker's kitchen! I have used the Cuisinart Cordless Automatic Electric Kettle MANY times while at my Mom-in-laws and have always found it easy to use. I really like the fact it can be removed once heated and then taken into another room to be poured.

I think it would be a great gift for a dorm living college student or someone who can't get away from their office at work. Besides tea it would be handy for instant coffee, soups, oatmeal and cocoa just to name a few.
