In this collaboration with Stephen King, director George Romero assembles a distinguished cast and pays vividly hued homage to the E.C. horror comics of the 1950s. (This film appeared years before the TALES FROM THE CRYPT series.) Five creepy tales are strung together by a framing story involving a young boy being punished by his father for reading the gruesome, titular comic book. "Father's Day" tells the tale of a family patriarch exacting beyond-the-grave revenge on the daughter who murdered him. In "The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill," a Maine hayseed (King himself in a ridiculously over-the-top performance) is overtaken by a meteor-based plant growth. A cuckolded husband exacts watery revenge on his cheating wife and her lover in "Something to Tide You Over." A hairy beast in a box is used for nefarious purposes at a university in "The Crate." Finally, in "They're Creeping Up on You," a wealthy, arrogant New Yorker with a fear of germs has a disturbing run-in with cockroaches during a blackout. <b... Minimize

Professional Reviews
Professional Reviews (05/26/1982, Klad.): "...The film is top of its class....CREEPSHOW feels like a real labor of love and Romero produces more genuine startling effects than anyone in recent years...", (11/10/1982, p.C23, Vincent Canby): "...The best things about CREEPSHOW are its carefully simulated comic-book tackiness and the gusto with which good actors assume silly positions..."

The movie that dares to answer the question: "Can you have your cake and eat it, too?"

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Oh, lots of pros. E.G. Marshall, Hal Holbrook, Ed Harris, Leslie Nielsen, and many more.

Cons: The gore is infrequent and cartoonish, but gory nonetheless. For well-adjusted kids only. And "Lordy, don't it itch!" Read More at Epinions.com

"This is going to be extremely painful, Mr. Verrill!"

Author's Rating: Rating: 4/5 stars

Pros: George Romero's directing, most of the creepy tales by King

Cons: Too creepy for young children; has adult themes and strong language

Bottom Line:
If you are a fan of the old EC Comics horror line, or of Stephen King's macabre tales, Creepshow is a minor but still enjoyable film. Read More at Epinions.com
