We really enjoy our 2006 Chevy Tahoe that we purchased in march of 2006. We waited until the end of the season to try and work a better deal and it seemed to help. More below on getting a great deal!

We test drove the LS & LT as well as the Suburban. We thought the Suburban was just too big for us because we live on a bit of a busier road and have to back out of our driveway into traffic.

The power seat settings for two is a nice feature because my wife and I are almost a foot difference in height. The second row seats are very easy to fold up and down and create a ton of space when everything is flat. We do have some issues with the third row seats, access to the third row with an infant car seat in place and the placement of the Child Seat Restraint Systems. Once the car seat is in place in the middle you are usually ok but we added a second car seat for a niece and this made our family trip to the beach a bit of a nightmare. Because the second Child Safety restraint was on the same side as the third row access, we had kids crawling over the third row to get in and it made it impossible or really painful for any adult to get to the third row.

We got a 2006 which is the now older body style but I am a much bigger fan of this style and think it will prove to be valuable down the road for resale. The 2007 style adds more plastic and looks less like a truck and more like a Saturn.

THE DEAL - As I mentioned, we waited for the end of the season to purchase this truck. If you can do the same I recommend it because the dealers are so much more aggressive with their prices and the factory has many more incentives. You will need to be flexible with color and some of the options but generally you can get what you want if there are enough dealers. If you wait until the fall to get the prior years model, your options are really limited. If you know you are going to get a Chevy or any GM vehicle, you should get a GM credit card where 5% of all purchases count toward your purchase up to some fixed dollar amount depending on the vehicle. GM also rounds up your savings to give you even more incentive to buy. It is a great program and you can still get a reasonable interest rate if your credit is good.
Also, consider a demo vehicle for value as well.
