Theres no debate. TrailBlazer is one powerful mid-size SUV. A 275 hp Vortec 4200 in-line 6-cylinder engine generates more standard horsepower than any other V6, or V8, in its class. And gives you a towing capacity of 2767 kg (6100 lb.) on 4x4 models. Hydroformed-steel side rails set a new standard for lightness and strength. Yet with 65/35 split second-row seating and wide-opening liftgate, TrailBlazer has the flexibility to take on adventure after adventure.

Pros: Comfortable ride on highway/Real low range for offroad
Good value for money
Cons: Poor steering feel
Interior is outdated
The Bottom Line:
Good choice for a used vehicle, as with any vehicle a couple common problems to look into prior to purchase
As I stated in my title I bought this truck brand new on the lot and have owned it since 2004. I have averaged a little over 15000 miles a year. I was originally attracted to the value and the appearance of the vehicle -which as I might add has changed very little during its full production run which I believe ended in 2010. For those people looking for a no frills used SUV I would recommend the Trailblazer. My vehicle is the LT midgrade package which gives you a few more frills than the LS like color coded trim, 17' wheels and foglights. It does have the cloth interior while some LT's have leather.
I have not been exceptionally easy on this truck. It has been on several 1000 plus mile trips and I have also used it in an off-road capacity while hunting and fishing. Offroad, this truck is actually very good with a low range and the necessary ground clearance. I have been in some pretty tough trails and mud and never gotten stuck which is a credit to the locking differential that is an option on these trucks. The locking differential was @$275 and most dealerships just ordered them that way. For someone looking for a vehicle for offroad duty, I would recommend it.
On the highway it has what I would consider to be a very comfortable ride, especially compared to Explorers and other true body on frame SUV's of the day. Steering is choppy and not well refined though, in my opinion. If any part of the driving experience would be less than desirable, steering feel would be it. Otherwise it is a very comfortable vehicle with comfortable front seats for long drives and adjustable lumbar. Rear seats, however are somewhat upright and cramped with seatbelts that choke smaller individuals.
Cargo capacity is about average for midsize SUV's and I have found that it can easily take a half ton load of camping equipment or bags of mulch and not be weighed down to the ground like some crossovers are.
During my ownership maintenance costs have been very minimal. I have found the scheduled maintenance to be very reasonable compared to foreign vehicles I have owned. Two of the items that I have had to be fixed are also ones that appear over and over again on chevy forums for this model truck. The first is the fan clutch which was a poor design and was later rectified in later vehicles. The second is a speedometer cluster that can go out. I would personally check with the owner prior to buying this used to see if either was fixed already. Due to my going on the trailblazer forum "Trailvoy" I was able to self diagnose these two common problems and also get highly discounted repairs having that knowledge when I went into the dealership. Other than those repairs which I got done for less than $600 total due to my knowledge of others having the problem, I have experienced no other failures. The motor still runs strong and the transmission shifts without issue.
In short I would recommend this vehicle, especially if you can buy from an original owner or have some type of confirmation that those particular issues have been addressed.---Hope this review helps!
