TrailBlazer loses standard front side airbags for 2003, but gains a V8 option for its largest model and available DVD video. The regular-length TrailBlazer seats five and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trim. The longer-wheelbase EXT adds a 3rd row for 7-passenger seating and has extended rear doors and a raised rear roofline. It initially came only in LT trim; an LS model was added midyear. Standard on both TrailBlazers is a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 275-hp inline 6-cyl engine. Optional on the EXT is a 290-hp V8 borrowed from Chevys full-size SUVs. TrailBlazers offer rear-wheel drive with available traction control or GMs Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard. Minimize

At age 81 I found the perfect car.

Pros: The seating height is wonderful for the elderly or handicapped.

Cons: Some wind noise.

The Bottom Line:
With General Motors great rebates and financing the Trailblazer is a fine choice.

Author's Review
One of the major problems with cars today is that they are so low to the ground. When you are young this does not matter, but as you age it becomes increasingly difficult to get in and out of cars, and at any age if you have a hip or back condition it can be painful getting into a low car. My hip replacement was a consideration in buying the right car.
The Trailblazer solved my problems. I don't have to lower myself into the seat, or struggle to get out of it. The seating height is perfect. And it allows me to keep my knees lower than my hips. A doctor's must for hip injuries.
Before getting the Trailblazer I looked at many SUVs. Many were lower than the TB, or had high door sills.
I seriously considered a KIA Sorento EX. The price looked right, $23,091 with leather seating.
But when I read last Sunday's paper and saw a TB for $21,988 I knew that was it. The dealer had five LS 2WDs, and by going to his web site I found he had a white one.
The MSRP was $28,652 including destination and great options of $1257.
The $21,988 price included GM's $3000 rebate, but I opted to go for the 60 months no interest payment which added back the $3000. I was able to get nothing down and drove off the lot without paying a penny.
The Trailblazer was a great birthday present.
