TrailBlazer loses standard front side airbags for 2003, but gains a V8 option for its largest model and available DVD video. The regular-length TrailBlazer seats five and comes in LS, LT, and LTZ trim. The longer-wheelbase EXT adds a 3rd row for 7-passenger seating and has extended rear doors and a raised rear roofline. It initially came only in LT trim; an LS model was added midyear. Standard on both TrailBlazers is a 4-speed automatic transmission and a 275-hp inline 6-cyl engine. Optional on the EXT is a 290-hp V8 borrowed from Chevys full-size SUVs. TrailBlazers offer rear-wheel drive with available traction control or GMs Autotrac 4WD that can be left engaged on dry pavement and includes low-range gearing. Antilock 4-wheel disc brakes are standard.

Pros: Smooth and powerful engine. Rides smooth and comfortably. Cargo room. Larger size hitch. 4WD. Braking.
Cons: The gas mileage is not as good as advertised. Could use more/larger compartments.
The Bottom Line:
So far so good. Had it almost six months and have yet to test it in snow. So far I I love it.
I researched numerous SUVs before I bought my 2004 Trailblazer EXT LT. I had my choice narrowed down to the Trailblazer EXT and the Honda Pilot. I like the sporty look of the Trailblazer EXT but my deciding factor was that the Pilot didn't offer full time 4wd. It only offered the AWD system which advertises that it senses road condition and will automatically switch to AWD. I like to know that when I put it in 4WD it is in 4WD. The Trailblazer EXT is also longer (but not as wide) and, according to knowledgeable people I spoke to, has a more solid suspension and drivetrain. The inline six cylinder is smooth as silk and has good pickup. I added a remote started and after using it, the engine is soo quiet sometimes I can't tell that the engine is on. The Trailblazer EXT is large enough for my needs far exceeding the standard 2001 Blazer I traded in for it. The truck has almost all the bells and whistles which all work well. My only gripe is that the gas mileage is not quite as good as rated (I average about 12.3 miles per gallon). All in all I love the vehicle.
