It is Terrific!

Author's Rating: Rating: 5/5 stars

Pros: Does everything an SLR can do.

Cons: Low power flash, out of focus shots in low light, fast action.

The Bottom Line:
Excellent camera for the serious photographer who is not quite "pro" yet. Compact, long battery life, versatile.

Author's Review
I had a Casio Z-40 that I bought almost by mistake. I found it quite good and liked it a lot. So when my son wanted a compact camera to take on a major trip, I told him I'd buy another Z-40 one for him. Then I found the Pro 600 and got that for ME and gave him the Z-40! I have never been sorry.
I probably have taken over 2000 shots now and the only complaint I can fairly state is that in low light, fast moving situations, the auto focus will just not do it. I tried to use the flash but the built in flash is just not that powerful (that's a trade off tho for having a compact camera). I have not used the flash connection for an outside flash, but that may solve the problem.
For 99% of situations, the camera is fantastic. Great shots. It does everything an SLR does. I really use the exposure comp a lot and it works great. If you are an experienced hobby photog, you will appreciate the level of control allowed w/ this camera. You probably won't need to get super big files for most situations - a 1 Meg file is sufficient to make great prints up to 8x10 (even 11x14).
So I follow the previous opinions - you won't go wrong buying this camera. In fact, it will be more capable than you need unless you have a reasonable amount of experience. You can use it as a point and shoot, but it can do so much more if you know how to use it.
